1. Sell Physical Products
From electronics, watches, skincare products, vitamin pills, sports equipment, car parts and accessories, pet care, furniture, music CDs, books, gardening accessories, security systems, computer and peripherals, clothes, fine art, toys, musical instruments, kitchenware, wine, food and groceries, flowers, gifts, jewellery, etc. The list is endless, if you can name a product you can find it being marketed over the World Wide Web.
A really great example of how all different kinds of physical products are being transacted in huge volume every single day is auction site eBay (www.eBay.com).
www.eBay.com
To give you an idea of how large eBay is, their revenue for the year 2014 was whopping $17.9 billion. And that's just their auction fees! Imagine the actual amount of commerce being transacted there.
In fact, if you're thinking of selling physical products, eBay is a great way to market your goods. (Of course, as with all things, I'd recommend you educate yourself on how to sell successfully on eBay first -

2. Sell Digital Products
An alternative to sell physical products is to sell digital products. Digital Products are one by which customers can simply download their purchase immediately from a website. Of course, by the very nature of these products, digital products are usually information or entertainment products (you can't actually download a chair, can you?).
Something like eBooks, audio program, instructional videos, MP3s, movies, computer games, and software are all products which can be sold and delivered digitally over the World Wide Web.
To give you a real life example of a website selling digital product, here's a mini-site for AK.

For
SuccessWithNLP.com, they sell a digital eBook which customers can immediately download after the payment transaction approved. The entire process from start to finish is entirely automated and you don't have to be at computer for sale to happen. In fact, you could wrestling with your cousin well the cash are stills alerting you.
The great thing about marketing digital products is that you don't worry about inventory, shipping or handling. Everything is done and executed digitally, starting with a digital product is a simpler and faster way to get your online business going.
3. Sell Affiliate Products
What if you don't have any your own product, physical or digital, to sell online? Now while I'd always highly recommend that you eventually create original products to market on the Internet, there is an alternative to selling your own products online -- you can sell affiliate products.
Affiliate product is simply a product that belong to someone else (the merchant) which you (the affiliate) can promote to earn commissions. To give you an online example: Amazon.com was among the pioneers to offer an affiliate marketing system for their products. They launched their Associate Program (https://affiliate-program.amazon.com) way back in 1996 and it's still around to this day.
The idea is simple. If you have a website, you simply place affiliate links and banners advertising Amazon's books and various products on your site. If someone clicks on your affiliate link and subsequently makes a purchase on Amazon, you instantly earn a commission. At the end of the month, your total commissions are tallied and Amazon sends you a cheque.
Amazon's Associate Program is brilliant in many ways. If you are an affiliate, you can now market a whole range of first-rate products that you didn't have access to before. You don't have to bother about creating a product, creating a website to sell it, setting up a payment system, managing the product inventory, shipping to the customer, handling refunds or providing follow-up customer services. Amazon simply handles all that for you. All you have to do is to promote your affiliate links and collect your commission cheques at the end of the month.
For Amazon, they now have an army of affiliates driving a huge amount of traffic to their website for free -- they only pay when a sale is made. The affiliates make money and Amazon increase their sales volume tremendously. It is a win-win situation for everyone involved and the affiliate marketing industry was born.
Today, there are many successful affiliate networks on the Internet which you can join for free and start promoting products for commissions immediately. Amazons Associate Program is one such example. Other well-known affiliate networks are Commission Junction (www.CJ.com) and ClickBank (www.ClickBank.com). The latter deals exclusively in digital products and they are the largest digital product marketplace on the Internet today.
ClickBank affiliate products are particularly popular with many Internet marketers because of high commissions some merchants offer up to 75%. By comparison, Amazon's Associate Program offer up to 15% commission.

4. Sell Services
Some examples of services being marketed online include legal advice, dating services, maths tuition, tax filing, personal coaching and mentoring, home tuition, personal assistants, programming work, translation services, babysitting, design and graphics, even Russian bride service!
Again, almost any service you can think of is already being marketed on the Internet. Here is an example of a website marketing virtual personal assistant services on the Internet www.GetFriday.com.

Nowadays, you can literally "outsource your life" to a service provider who will help you to organize and get your tasks done. Just don't your kids find out about them or they could be outsourcing their homework pretty soon.
5. Sell Advertising Space
Finally, you can make money on the Internet by selling advertising space. If you have a high trafficked website that is tightly targeted towards a specific market niche, it would extremely valuable to advertisers who are willing to pay top dollar to have their products and services displayed on your website.
An example is AskMen.com which caters to the men's lifestyle market. AskMen recieves 6.8 million unique visitors to its website monthly and owns 34.58% of the men's lifestyle market on the Internet. It is currently also the 720th most-trafficked website on the Internet.
With traffic stats like that, it is no wonder that businesses selling products targeted towards young adult are very interested in paying for advertising space in AskMen.

Of course, it take a lot of time, effort and resources to build a website to attract this kind of traffic and readership levels and AskMen has been on the Internet since 1999.
Now what if your website receives only a small trickle of visitors. Can you still attract businesses to advertise on your website? Normally you wouldn't but ever since Google launched its Adsense program, normal everyday website owners can now serve Google ads on their website and earn advertising revenue. Google AdSense
